Dr. Mikkyla Reid was born and raised in Barrie, Ontario. She moved to Guelph, Ontario for 8 years to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. After graduating from vet school, Mikkyla was eager to return to Barrie, be close to family, and practice in her hometown!
Since she was a toddler, her family would tell her she would become a “dancing vet” as her two passions were dance and animals. As she grew up, she realized that she had a deep love for biology, specifically health sciences, which led her to complete her undergraduate degree in biomedical science at Guelph University.
Having the ability to help animals, and their owners, through studying animal biology made perfect sense as a career path for Mikkyla. Although all aspects of veterinary medicine interest her, she does specifically enjoy surgery and internal medicine cases.
Mikkyla currently lives with her fiance and their cat, Lua. Lua loves to watch the world outside of her favourite windows, run up and down the stairs, and of course pounce on their feet when they least expect it. When Mikkyla is not hard at work at Orillia Pet Hospital, she loves to get our and explore – whether that be hiking or camping somewhere new, going for a day trip up north, spending time by the water, or finding some yummy restaurants and cafes in Toronto, Ontario.
